I'm in love. Yes, you heard me. This past weekend I discovered the best thing since DVR, Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. I have officially finished my Spring cleaning! Normally I would not have held off for so long but, since you can see that every one of my previous posts begins with "Last night" you can also see I have been quite the busy girl!
I used to clean religiously. But, over the past year and a half, that has changed. Peer pressure with the fact that my Dad is coming to visit this week helped tremendously!
So Friday night after "Friday Fiesta," a new fun thing my girls have started, I decided I needed to get to bed early for once in the past month (seriously). I got home and started
to get ready for bed organizing. Who does that? Me. Yes, I'm guilty. I went through every single cupboard, cabinet, desk/dresser/kitchen drawer, tub, bin, medicine cabinet. Spring cleaning had officially begun.
After two hours of throwing things away and organizing, I decided it was bed time. You wouldn't believe all the crap I got rid of! In four and a half years, I can't believe how much stuff I have accumulated in this teeny tiny apartment. Apparently I have gotten really good at hiding it.
I was supposed to finish my spring cleaning on Saturday but of course I got too distracted with Deli's, Target and friends. I picked up right where I left off on Sunday morning after a long stroll in SoHo with Oliver.
I started by picking every lift-able thing off of the ground and piling it on top of my bed and sofa. It was quite the site. Then I moved everything into the center of the room including the bed and sofa. Apparently I am pretty strong. I vacuumed everything off, curtains, walls, base boards, art, mirrors, tables, bed frame, lamp shades, lamps and light fixtures, hangers, closet system. You name it, it got vacuumed. Then I went over everything with my favorite Viva paper towels and my new favorite Multi-Surface Pledge!
After making sure all of the dust was gone, I vacuumed the floors, swept and used my trusty Swiffer Sweeper and my all time favorite wood floor cleaner from Method!
My Aunt Debby told my Mom that the wet swiffer pads are harmful to pets. What happens is the pets walk on the floor, after it is cleaned, and then they lick their paws. So, I decided to go with a green safer product for little Oliver's sake. My Good friend Jessica told me about the Method Wood Floor cleaner and I love it!
After I finished dusting and wiping everything down I slowly placed everything back in it's correct position while wiping it clean and dust free! After everything was in place I went back over things with the vacuum to make sure all of the dust was gone! This time I vacuumed my sofa, pillows, chairs, mattress pad, and rugs (in every single direction possible). I even threw away some rugs. Living in New York City is just asking for dust and rugs hold so much dust they are just not needed.
After Making sure everything was spick and span, I took my new trusty Magic Eraser to the walls, baseboards, furniture, door casings, doors, and eventually when I finally made it to the Kitchen, on all of my appliances! I couldn't believe how many marks came off of my microwave! I didn't even use much force. No sweating, no hard labor, just poof! It was heaven!
HOUSE CLEANING TIPS
Great ways to get a whole home clean you'll love to live in.
After two and a half hours and round two on the "2010" iPod playlist, I made my way to the Kitchen! I repeated all of the steps and poof, I had a sparkling new Kitchen!
My favorite sponges are Casabella! I love them! I usually get them from Duane Reade but they don't have them anymore. So, yesterday I found them at Bed Bath and Beyond. I believe the Container Store has them too!
And of course, the Casabella gloves. I used to have them in purple but I can't find them anymore. Now I'm stuck with pink. I don't like pink but it's better than yellow!
The bathroom. Currently I am using comet. AH. I know. But once I run out of everything, I am going to buy the Bathroom Cleaning Kit from Method! It comes with the toilet bowl cleaner, shower cleaner, scrub and wipes.
Everything in my bathroom is white. I have dark hair. So, you can see my hair on everything. It has been so hard to keep my bathroom clean even for a day! Good thing I workout so much! I can shower at the gym!
Well the new love of my life has a website. And on this website they give you all kinds of tips for cleaning. I thought I would share them!
