- This weekend, the girls and I happened upon the Hester Street Fair. We didn't have much time to pursue before brunch so we headed back after our lovely meal. After all, there were a couple of items I needed to check out a second time to see if they were purchase worthy.I love exploring my hood and the surrounding hoods. You never know what you'll find. It might be a cute little street fair with hand crafted one of a kind jewelry, bags, clothes and delicious mouth watering treats.Emma found and fell in love with some awesome post cards, Whitney splurged on some funky chunky jewelry while Kristen joined me in drooling over the whoppie cookie ice cream sandwiches. I also found a grey leather bag I just had to have. Fortunately, they didn't take credit cards which allowed me to save some dough. Here is a little information about one of my new favorite street fairs! I can't wait to bring my parents back! They love the little local home made trinkets.Welcome to the Hester Street Fair. Located at the corner of Hester and Essex Street, the fair celebrates the culture and rich history of the Lower East Side neighborhood. At the turn of the century, Hester Street was the site of the busiest outdoor market in New York City:“There is hardly a square foot of ground in Hester Street that is not covered with people during the day. The whole place seems to be in a state of perpetual motion, and the occasional visitor is apt to have a feeling of giddiness.†NY Times, July 27, 1895.Today, the Hester Street Fair focuses on curated local goods, food and most importantly, highlights the vibrant spirit of the community. Located at Hester and Essex Streets, the tree-lined site is ideally situated between both F stops (East Broadway/Delancey) and adjacent to Seward park.
